Hike, bike, or horseback ride. Herington is the starting point of the recreational trail converted from the old railroad beds. The Flint Hills Nature Trail begins in the City of Herington, a city with a long history as a major rail center in Kansas. The trail runs through the gently rocking tall grass prairie under a clear breeze. The breeze is punctuated by bobwhite quail and prairie chickens. Deer can be seen abundantly in the area.
