Old Town Marketplace

This revitalized historic warehouse district features the charm of turn-of-the-century buildings, brick streets, street lights and boardwalks. Over 200 buisnesses in a ten block area create the largest concentrated shopping, dining and entertainment area in Kansas.

At the turn of the century, the area along the railroad tracks was brimming with the energy and activity of manufacturers, wholesalers, jobbers and retailers. It was Wichita’s premiere “manufacturing and transportation” district. As trucking and airlines became the transportation of choice for businesses, the necessity of locating business adjacent to the railroad became a thing of the past. As Wichita’s downtown shifted to the west, the massive steel, timber, concrete and red brick buildings once a vital part of a thriving economy now stood as aging and often empty reminders of days gone by.

The Old Town Marketplace which has over 60 historic buildings is being carefully restored to its original grandeur and beauty. The district now includes pedestrian friendly red-brick streets with raised boardwalks, historic lighting, landscaping and free parking. Community police officers, a Saturday trolley and valet parking services all contribute to the fun for the entire family atmosphere.

The Old Town Marketplace is once again a vibrant and thriving district. It is a study of contrasts – high energy night clubs, distinctive restaurants, special events, upscale hotel suites, loft-warehouse-apartments, quaint and contemporary retail shops, a Saturday Farmer’s Market and nationally recognized professional firms.
